SNEAK PREVIEW: New Scorpion Exhaust Range for the Mercedes-AMG GT

Something special is coming for the AMG GT.

We’ve been given an early look at Scorpion Exhausts’ newly developed performance exhaust range for the Mercedes-AMG GT — and we thought it was too good not to share.

Development of the new system has now been completed, with Scorpion creating a modular exhaust package that allows AMG GT owners to choose just how far they want to take that unmistakable V8 soundtrack.

We’re currently awaiting the final product listings, specifications and pricing from Scorpion before the range goes live through Meistech, but here's a first look at what’s coming.

Electronic Valved Rear Silencer

One of the headline components is Scorpion's new electronic valved rear silencer assembly.

Importantly, the system has been developed to work with the AMG GT's existing electronic exhaust control, meaning the car's driving modes continue to operate the exhaust valves as intended.

For us, that's a major part of getting an AMG exhaust upgrade right.

You can increase the drama when you want it, without losing the ability to quieten the car down when you don't.

Centre X-Pipe

Scorpion has also developed a new centre-section X-pipe, designed to give the AMG V8 a noticeably deeper exhaust note.

It can be installed independently or combined with the other components in the range.

And that's where this new system becomes particularly interesting.

Silencer Delete Pipes

For those looking for considerably more theatre, Scorpion has developed a set of rear silencer delete pipes.

Scorpion's Shaun Leonard gave us perhaps the best description:

“They make the car sound like thunder.”

Despite the considerably more aggressive sound outside the vehicle, Scorpion reports no unwanted drone inside the cabin during its development testing.

The delete pipes are also set to receive a black ceramic coating, giving the finished product a suitably premium appearance.

Build Your AMG GT Exhaust in Stages

Rather than developing one fixed system, Scorpion has made the range interchangeable and modular.

That means an owner could start with the centre X-pipe and add the valved rear silencer later.

Alternatively, start at the rear and work forwards.

It gives owners the opportunity to find the level of sound they want without necessarily committing to an entire system from day one.

For a car like the AMG GT, we think that makes a lot of sense.

Coming Soon to Meistech

We're currently working with Scorpion and awaiting the final product information, fitment details and pricing before adding the new AMG GT range to the Meistech store.

Once we have those details, we'll publish the individual options and available configurations.

For now, consider this your sneak preview.

And judging by what we've seen so far, AMG GT owners are going to want to hear this one.

MEISTECH INSIGHT

The AMG GT's V8 soundtrack is one of the defining characteristics of the car, so an exhaust upgrade needs to add character without taking away its usability.

The combination of electronic valve integration, modular construction and several different sound levels makes this new Scorpion range particularly interesting.

We've got more information coming shortly.
